The Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), in partnership with the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD), hosted the second South African Business Incubation Conference (SABIC) on 15-16 November 2018. The event included the Technology Business Incubation Awards Ceremony on the evening of the 15 November 2018. The awards were aimed to acknowledge and encouraging best practice in the enterprise development space.

The award ceremony was open to Incubation Centres and Accelerators throughout South Africa; supported by government, academic institutions, private sector and other organisations.

The award categories take into account the variety of programmes that have benefitted from initiatives such as but not limited to the Technology Transfer Fund, SPII and TIA. These awards encapsulated the heart of the enterprise development ecosystem which includes business incubation and acceleration, technology transfer, technical and business support and growth and sustainability.

NOMINATION CATEGORIES

The awards represented were the following categories:

  1. Incubator of the Year
  2. Accelerator of the Year
  3. Outstanding Incubator Client
  4. Outstanding Accelerator Client
  5. Outstanding Graduate Entrepreneur
  6. Minister’s Award

DSBD Minister’s Award

This award intended to honour an individual or organisation for their exceptional contribution in the enterprise development and innovation space. The award does not have a formal, external nomination process but instead draws from the industry success stories from a person who has contributed greatly to the industry.

The 1st runner up award was presented to Louise de Klerk from Timbali and Michael Ready from Furntech was awarded the Minister’s award. The 2nd runner up award was presented to Patricia Dlamini.
