Timbali Technology Incubator is a Not for Profit (NPC) supply chain incubator with head office in Nelspruit. Timbali supports 70% women and 50% youths in their portfolio of over 270 clients in 2016/2017. Timbali tips the balance in favour of the young smallholder farmer by using a Cluster-model to increase economy of scale and a system-dependent business format. This enables the small agri-business to consistently deliver a predictable, high-quality product resulting in significant economic benefits. This model enables new farmers to become competitive in the marketplace.
Timbali established baby vegetable business units/farms with supply chain infrastructure and out-growers in Nelspruit, Komatipoort and Lydenburg in Mpumalanga, Musina in Limpopo, and soon opening in Gauteng, North West Province and Western Cape. Based on market demand, Timbali established four Global GAP accredited pack houses for baby vegetables. These function as inclusive supply chains to provide a 12 months’ supply to five export markets, all retail supermarkets and wholesale markets.
Business Development Manager: Technical and Production: The BDM: Technical and Production will be responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its incubation, production, maintenance and business objectives. The person will direct the production and all technical activities of the organization in accordance with policies, goals, and objectives. BDM will manage the business units that focus on export baby vegetable production and all other appropriate crops and will report directly to the CEO. Each business unit is managed by a Business Unit Manager (BUM) that reports to the BDM.
This position entails the execution of the following core functions:
To implement and report on business unit and funder key performance indicators.
To plan, implement and monitor the internal business processes through the Concept Master Plan for each Business Unit.
To show leadership in business units reaching their production targets consistently and profitably.
To foster corporate culture of continuous improvement and learning, ethical practices and encourages integrity to maintain an ethical work climate.
To ensure that day-to-day technical business affairs are appropriately managed in all Business Units.
To manage all logistics and their maintenance by means of Timbali’s asset management system.
To ensure continual improvement in quality and value of the training and incubation services provided to our clients.
To ensure an effective management team below the level of the BDM, manage their quarterly performance assessment and succession plan.
To ensure that the Risk Management Plan is appropriately managed.
Assists the CEO in the development of organisation policies, goals that cover operations and technical performance, and profitable growth of the business units. Oversees internal operations to achieve budgeted results and other production criteria, and to preserve the capital funds invested in the incubator. Supervise implementation of procedures and controls, to promote communication and adequate information flow, and thereby solidify management of the incubator’s clients.
Requirements: Appropriate qualifications with at least 7 years’ work and management experience.
